**PROJECT LIBRARY** An All Saints Community Project for 2023-24

Dear Parents,

I am writing to share news of an important whole-school (and hopefully wider-community) project that we will be working on this year at All Saints.

While we acknowledge that our school is fortunate in many ways, for example our stunning field and outdoor learning area, there is one vital element of a school that we are lacking: A School Library.

While each class has a lovely book area, this isn't the same as a bright, modern, multi-purpose room that children can access regularly as part of their learning, or as a breaktime choice.

You will see from the photos below, that we have a spare classroom, which gets very little use. It is clearly in need of a lot of TLC! It is a lovely room on the upper floor, looking out over the field and with a lot of natural light all day. This is going to be our library.

As well as the obvious benefits of a lovely new library, there are also great opportunities for children to take on roles of responsibility. For example, as every child in school will have a library card, we will need librarians, to scan books in and out, and to ensure returned books are correctly out away.

As I have mentioned before, like many smaller schools, our budget is in a rather challenging place for several reasons. Therefore, if we are going to create the library that our children deserve, we are going to have to raise the funds ourselves. Initially, I am setting a target of ten thousand pounds that will enable a big chunk of the room re-purposing to take place. It will also go towards the paint and carpet required, the computerised book system and the new furniture.

All classes are going to be running fund-raising activities this year and they have been discussing ideas with their teacher today. We would be very grateful if you could talk about this with children at home and encourage them to bring in any ideas they may have.

We are setting up an area on Parent Pay for any donations you might want to give, but we are really looking forward to getting the children the design and carry out the majority of fundraising tasks, as it will give them a real ownership over the finished library.

We look forward to sharing more about this project in the near future.

Kind regards,

Miss E Wilson
