Computing

Computing Intent Statement

At All Saints’ CE Primary and Nursery School, our computing curriculum supports our vision to nurture a safe, loving and inclusive environment where every child is valued and celebrated as an individual. We believe computing plays a vital role in developing pupils’ self-belief, resilience and responsibility, equipping them with the skills and understanding needed to make a positive impact in an increasingly digital world.

Our computing curriculum is inclusive, ambitious and carefully sequenced, ensuring clear progression from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) through Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Through the teaching of computer science, information technology and digital literacy, we encourage children to become confident learners who persevere through challenges, think creatively and use technology thoughtfully and responsibly.

In the EYFS, children are introduced to technology in a safe, nurturing and developmentally appropriate way. Computing supports learning within Understanding the World, allowing pupils to explore digital devices, follow simple instructions and recognise patterns through practical, play-based experiences. Early opportunities to use technology help children develop confidence, independence and a sense of curiosity, while learning how to use digital tools safely and respectfully.

In Key Stage 1, pupils build on these foundations by developing confidence and self-belief in their ability to use technology. They are introduced to basic programming concepts such as sequencing and algorithms, and learn how digital devices are used in everyday life. Children create and manipulate simple digital content, while being taught to show kindness, respect and compassion when interacting online, reflecting our Christian values.

In Key Stage 2, pupils deepen their understanding of computing concepts and develop resilience through problem-solving, debugging and logical reasoning. They learn to design, write and evaluate programs, understand how data is represented and used, and apply computing skills across the wider curriculum. Pupils are encouraged to persevere when faced with challenge, to work collaboratively, and to use technology in ways that support learning, creativity and service to others.

Online safety is a core element of our computing intent at every stage. Pupils are taught how to use technology safely, responsibly and respectfully, developing a compassionate understanding of how their actions can affect others. Through this, we empower children to make informed choices and to carry strong Christian principles into their digital lives.

By the end of Key Stage 2, our intent is that pupils leave All Saints’ CE Primary and Nursery School as confident, resilient and responsible users of technology, with secure computing knowledge, a strong sense of self-belief, and a compassionate heart. We aim for them to be well prepared for secondary education and equipped to use technology positively, ethically and purposefully as they grow into adulthood.

Safer Internet Day

This year, Safer Internet Day (10th February 2026) focuses on 'Smart Tech, Safe Choices.'

While we need to be aware of the new and changing risks posed by AI, families also need to continue to work together to stay safe online. For children, this might mean reconsidering what websites or apps they use:

At school, we support one another to use the internet safely:
